National Unity day (also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) is celebrated every year on 31st of October by the people all through India. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who really unified the country. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day was introduced by the Government of India in 2014 with the aim of celebrating this event every year on 31st October.
The aim of introducing this event is to pay tribute to the great man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his birth anniversary by remembering his extraordinary works for the country. He really worked hard in keeping India united.

NATIONAL UNITY DAY 2019

National Unity Day 2019 is being celebrated on 31st of October, Thursday by the people all over India. It is celebrated as 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The day is observed to commemorate the efforts of Sardar Patel in the integration of post independence Indian dominion. This year National Unity Day was celebrated on Thursday, 31st October. This year’s theme of National Unity Day was “Bring the Nation Together, United in Times of Strife and Rising Extremism”.
Senior cabinet ministers and leaders of opposition paid their due respect to Sardar Patel and remembered his exceptional administrative skills and foresight, which laid the foundation of the administrative system of modern India, as we see today.
Sardar Patel is also highly applauded for his efforts in making the princely kingdoms concede with the dominion of India, post independence.
A special event on National Unity Day was organized on 31st October 2019, Thursday at New Delhi’s Malvankar Hall located on Rafi Marg, behind the RBI. The event was attended by the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Sri Om Birla as the Chief Guest and various other central ministers.
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi visited the “Statue of Unity” at Kevadia in Gujarat on the occasion of Sardar Patel Jayanti and National Unity Day. Statue of Unity is a world famous, 182 mtr high statue of Sardar Patel. It is the highest statue in the world.
The event at the Statue of Liberty was also be attended by the World Bank President David Malpass and probationers if IAS (Indian Administrative Services), IPS (Indian Police Services), IRS (Indian Revenue Services) and IFS (Indian Foreign Services) as well as other senior officials of the Government of India. A National Unity Day parade was also organized at Kevadiya on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel jayanti.
Home Minister of India, Sri Amit Shah had asked all the states and Union Territories to celebrate National Unity Day, also the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel with great enthusiasm and fervor. He added that the abrogation of Article 370 from the state of Jammu and Kashmir was a tribute to the vision of Patel and hence this calls for a great celebration.
